Privacy policy

Last updated: 13 October 2026

In short: your screen time is read and processed only on your device and is never sent anywhere. The only thing the app can send is anonymous usage statistics, and only if you turn them on (they are off by default).

Who is responsible

ScrollToLife is made by Bartosz Przymencki, a private individual in Poland, who is the data controller for the matters described below. Contact: scrolltolife@gmail.com.

What the app uses on your device

To show what scrolling costs you, the app needs to know how long you used the apps you chose to count. It gets this from your phone's operating system, with your permission:

  • iPhone and iPad: Apple's Screen Time framework, after you allow access. The app only sees the apps you pick as anonymous tokens, and usage numbers are displayed by Apple's protected Screen Time component. They cannot be copied out of it or sent anywhere.
  • Android: the "usage access" permission, which lets the app read how long apps were in the foreground. The app also reads the list of installed apps so you can choose which ones to count.

Everything is calculated on your device. Your settings (which apps and activities you chose) and the record of notifications already sent are stored only on your device (and in your own device backups, if you make them). Milestone notifications are created on your device. The app does not send this data to any server.

What the app does not do

  • It has no account and no sign-in.
  • It never sends your screen time, the names of the apps you use or your milestones anywhere.
  • It contains no advertising and does not track you across apps or websites. It does not use the advertising identifier.
  • It does not sell data.

Anonymous usage statistics (optional)

Anonymous statistics help improve the app: they show how it is used and what needs fixing. You can turn them on in the last setup step or in the app's Settings ("Share anonymous usage statistics"). It is off unless you turn it on. Only then does the app send:

  • when the app is opened and how long it stays open,
  • that you finished the setup,
  • which of the app's activities you chose for the conversions (e.g. book or running) and whether Screen Time or usage access and notifications are on,
  • technical details the analytics tool adds automatically: device model, system and app version, language and approximate country.

They never include your screen time, app names, milestones or anything that could show how much time you spend on screens. The statistics are linked only to a random identifier created for the app on your device, not to your name, email or advertising identifier.

We use Google Analytics for Firebase, provided by Google Ireland Limited, which processes the statistics only on our behalf, under a data processing agreement, with protection at least equal to what this policy describes. The statistics are sent over an encrypted connection. Data may be processed outside the EU, including in the United States, under the safeguards required by the GDPR (the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses). We have turned off ad features and sharing the data with Google for its own purposes, and the statistics are kept for 2 months. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time by turning the option off in Settings; the app then stops sending statistics and deletes its analytics identifier on your device.

App stores

You download ScrollToLife from the App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google process data about your downloads and purchases under their own privacy policies. Depending on your device settings, they may give us aggregated, anonymous statistics such as the number of installs or crashes. These do not identify you.

If you email us

If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to reply and to handle your request. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We keep the correspondence only as long as needed to handle the matter.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. To exercise them, email us. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority; in Poland that is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO).

Removing the app's data

Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on your device. You can also withdraw its access at any time: on iPhone and iPad in Settings > Screen Time, on Android in the system settings under "Usage access". Statistics already sent are linked only to a random identifier, so they cannot be traced back to you, and are deleted automatically after 2 months. For any questions about your data, write to the address above.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data about them. Usage statistics are sent only with consent given in the app.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the app ever starts collecting anything beyond what is listed here, the policy will say so before that version is released.
